Harrison, Union, Liberty, and Independence - Vintage Art Print - Victorian Antique 1800's Americana - Curiosities - Historic Paper Ephemera

Behold this majestic Whig campaign broadside, very similar to "Westward the March of Empire Takes it's Flight" with the same lengthy text, here entitled "Epitome of the Life of William Henry Harrison". Framing the text are two pairs of Ionic columns supporting a pediment, on which rests an eagle holding olive branches and arrows in his talons and a streamer reading "Harrison Union Liberty and Independence" in his beak. Behind the eagle a rising sun is partially visible. Below is a portrait of Harrison. The columns rest on bases, with pictures of the battles of Tippecanoe (left) and the Thames (right), both Harrison victories. On the left pedestal stands a Native American with a tomahawk and rifle, and on the right is a frontier hunter in buckskins and coonskin hat, holding a rifle.

Born in Virginia on February 9, 1773 on a Virginia Plantation, William Henry Harrison became the ninth president of the United States in 1841. Harrison's father, Benjamin, was a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and his grandson, also Benjamin, became the 23rd president. Elected at 67 years of age, he was at the time the oldest man to take the office, and the last to be born while the United States was still under British rule. Unfortunately, he caught a cold around the time of his inauguration, and it developed into pneumonia. On April 4, 1841, William Henry Harrison died in the White House, before his wife had even moved to Washington, D.C. to become first lady. He became the first U.S. president to die in office, his one month tenure the shortest.

This print is a highly detailed scan of the original published plate and is truly an amazing image perfect for framing!

This image has been digitally retouched and repaired as necessary, while leaving the foxing, wear, and creases that lend to the intrigue of these old works. This giclee quality art is printed on heavyweight matte archival / acid-free museum quality stock with lightfast inks rated 100+ years. No watermark will appear on your print. The artwork is printed with a surrounding white margin (included in print size) to aid in framing/matting the print. Your purchase will ship priority mail (US) in a protective kraft tube made from 70-100% post-consumer recycled content and up to 30% secondary recycled content.

Given the nature of vintage artwork created before the standardization of print and frame sizes, this item may not conform exactly to the dimensions you choose. To allow for the odd sizing of these images they are printed approximately 2 inches smaller than the paper they are on. This way you receive a standard size, with a white surrounding border that allows for easy framing, with or without a matte.
