Behold the 1728 Plan de Paris by L’Abbe Jean Delagrive, a beautifully rendered aerial view of 1700's Paris, and an epic undertaking considering the first manned balloon flight was still 55 years in the future! Our exclusive print is bright and highly detailed, and is inscribed at the top and bottom with a title and map description in French. A large cartouche of the weapons of Paris surrounded by Piety and Justice, accompanied by Minerve, Neptune, Mercury and Venus, with original title/description occupies the upper right corner, with a dedication cartridge containing a portrait of the young King Louis XV on the left.

The map itself is surrounded with detailed drawings of the facades of landmark buildings popular at the time; Blondel Louvre, Invalides, Tuileries, Luxembourg, the Sorbonne, the Val de Grace, Notre Dame, etc. You'll become lost in this print for hours as you discover the locations of centuries old landmarks - even La Bastille which still stood at the time. Delagrive's Plan was the first Parisian map to indicate the newly constructed Champs-Élysées, and was the first travelers map available to the public by subscription.

This print is a highly detailed scan of an original published plate and is truly an amazing image perfect for framing. It makes an excellent addition to your home or office, and is a perfect gift for the Paris aficionado in your life.

This image has been digitally retouched and repaired as necessary, while leaving the foxing, wear, and creases that lend to the intrigue of these old works. This giclee quality art is printed on heavyweight matte archival/ acid-free museum quality stock with lightfast inks rated 100+ years. No watermark will appear on your print. The artwork is printed with a surrounding white margin (included in print size) to aid in framing/matting the print. Your purchase will ship priority mail (US) in a protective kraft tube made from 70-100% post-consumer recycled content and up to 30% secondary recycled content.

Given the nature of vintage artwork created before the standardization of print and frame sizes, this item may not conform exactly to the dimensions you choose. To allow for the odd sizing of these images they are printed approximately 2 inches smaller than the paper they are on. This way you receive a standard size paper, with a white surrounding border that allows for easy framing, with or without a matte.
