Behold the 1870 World Map "Nueste Karte Der Erbe", a vastly complex German language map of the world by C. F. Baur and Traugott Bromme. This extraordinary map presents the world on a Mercator Projection. Designed with a educational purposes in mind, Baur manages to incorporate a wealth of informative detail into every corner of this map, with an attempt at water current and wind patterns, and border regions occupied by a series of smaller maps and charts including polar projections, an isothermal chart, a wind chart, an inset of Panama and Suez, weather charts, and a magnetic variation chart. The title cartouche, appearing in the lower left quadrant shows a ship and a train as well as a logo that seems to embrace the realms of both navigation and science.

This particular map was cut in four sections and mounted to linen backing for ease of folding as a travelers map. Each of the four sections also has centered folding creases.
