Coronelli Idea of the Universe Print, 1690 Celestial Astrology Wall Chart

Vincenzo Coronelli’s 1690 “Idea of the Universe” is a lavish Baroque cosmological chart, bringing astronomy, astrology, planetary diagrams, zodiac imagery, and decorative engraving into one extraordinary visual map of the heavens.

Created by Vincenzo Maria Coronelli, the celebrated Venetian cartographer, cosmographer, and globe maker, this copperplate print appeared in the first volume of his “Atlante Veneto” in 1690. The chart spans two folios and was later reused in other Coronelli works, including “Globi Differenti” and “Cronologia Universale.”

Its easy to see why this image is so appealing. At the center is a grand celestial planisphere surrounded by wind heads, planetary systems, eclipse diagrams, zodiac references, and richly engraved ornamental detail. The result is part celestial map, part astrological chart, part Baroque cabinet of cosmic knowledge. It is especially suited to studies, libraries, offices, reading rooms, astrology-inspired interiors, and old-world gallery walls.
